Welcome Ryker to the RHHR family!
Ryker is only 8 months old was surrendered to Raven’s Husky Haven on September 21 because he could no longer stand. The former owners first noticed their puppy limping on a walk. Ryker was purchased at a pet store, obviously a puppy mill Husky that is a victim of poor and excessive breeding. The former owners found out the puppy requires significant surgical intervention, bilateral knee repair that they could not handle -- or afford. We agreed to accept Ryker at RHHR as an owner-surrender. Sometimes RHHR rescues huskies with serious medical conditions and injuries. We took on this extraordinary case because we have the skills, veterinary support and experience to help this poor little boy. We have already (immediately) had Ryker examined by our own orthopedic specialist vet, and received confirmation that she will need to perform surgery on both of Ryker’s legs – but that the prognosis is positive. Properly caring for Ryker before he can be adopted will entail not only significant unanticipated expenses for surgery and various associated appointments and medicines, but also lengthy rehabilitation time. Our manager, experienced with medically challenged rescued huskies, will keep Ryker in her ranch home on the rescue property, to supervise and fully support his recovery. With the two surgeries and subsequent healing, Ryker should be fully able to live a happy life in his future adoptive home. Ryker is likely to experience some leg weakness going forward, probably be prone to arthritis, and will always need joint supplements.
Let us tell you one thing we know: this little guy is worth it! Ryker is sweet and super adorable and wants so badly to play with the other huskies around him, and just go for a nice walk. He mostly plays laying down -- for now.
